KWAM Stretch and Relax.png

This slow-paced class focuses on releasing muscle tension, loosening tight joints and enhancing overall flexibility. It offers an ideal movement practice for anyone experiencing general tightness, related pain or physical restrictions. It is based on Pilates principles integrated with stretching techniques.

What can I expect and what will I learn?

You can expect to explore slow-paced movement sequences to music, designed to open the body, release muscle tension and improve overall posture. Each class starts with a gentle warm up to begin mobilising the body in subtle ways. This will lead into deep stretches, which vary from active, dynamic stretches to passive positions to help bring relaxation to the body. Each class might focus on particular areas of the body, but will end with a full body release.

You will learn:

  • stretch-oriented movements which encourage body awareness

  • slow-paced stretch and release exercises that help reduce muscle tension

  • Pilates principles

  • explorations of your own specific bodily needs

  • improved flexibility and physical range

Who is this class for?

The class is suitable for people who don't move regularly as well as frequent movers who are interested to integrate focused stretch and muscle release into their practice. Since the class is taught by a professional dance practitioner, it is particularly effective for dancers and movers who tend to work with their bodies from a point of strength rather than release. The class is suitable to be combined with our up-beat Expressive Bodies classes.
