head bucket bed
by Klaudia Wittmann
head bucket bed is a dance theatre piece based on a collaboration between choreographer Klaudia Wittmann and sculptor Lara Ritosa-Roberts. Drawing on research on the histories of bodies in women’s gymnastics and psychiatry, head bucket bed addresses questions of gendered trauma. Specifically, it engages with historical and contemporary scandals of institutional abuse, both in sport and medicine.
The piece searches for the materiality of social violence - it builds, destroys and rebuilds dreamscapes consisting of materials and objects. By playfully interacting, merging and transforming the physical environment, the piece draws the audience into a space where our imagined mastery over objects and objectified bodies is questioned. Do we move objects, or do objects move us?
The original sound score was created by composer Alex Roth, using exclusively sounds that were recorded from the set and the materials within it.
